In the summer of 2018 Better Together St. Louis, in partnership with Good Voice and St. Louis Artworks engaged young people in a conversation about our region.
Youth listening sessions provided teens with an opportunity to share perspectives on local identity, regional fragmentation, and their vision for St. Louis.
Participants generated questions, conversations, and crafted statements. Most of the youth’s experiences with local government involved interactions with police and concerns about safety in the region.
While these interviews reflect only a portion of what the youth expressed, it is clear that their experiences were varied and deep. Despite the variation in experiences, when asked to look toward the future, strong visions of unity emerged from nearly all participants.
